A Python exercise that reads a file of temperatures, with the file shown and the message Correct. Well done.
Real code, checked for you. Records, functions and files in Python, in the browser. Exercises check themselves and save as you go.
An SQL exercise with a saved query, a second query that uses it, and both results
Real SQL on a real database. GROUP BY, wildcards, and one query's result used in another.
A marked quiz question with feedback on the wrong answer and a note that the pupil was certain but wrong
Feedback that teaches. Every wrong answer explained. Say how sure you are, and the mistakes you were sure about are flagged.

    What you get

    Notes for every topic

Short, clear notes for all 46 topics, written for Higher pupils. Every note ends with In the exam: how the topic is asked and what gains the mark. Quiz feedback adds what the examiners' reports say candidates get wrong.

    Real coding, in the browser

Three skills units: Python, SQL and Web for Higher. Records, files, functions with parameters, GROUP BY and saved queries, forms, CSS layout and JavaScript, each ending with exam-style "write the code" questions. Nothing to install.

    Exam practice that teaches

46 practice quizzes in the style of the exam, with new questions every time. Every wrong answer explains why it is wrong, and what would and would not gain the mark.

    A full mock exam

80 marks in 2 hours, like the real paper: Section 1, then databases or web. Marked as soon as you finish, with feedback on every part. It opens in February.

A dashboard that tells you what next

See what is done, what is strong and what needs work. It points to the next thing to do, the topics due for a refresher, and the real past-paper questions on each topic.

    For parents and carers

You create the account, so the emails come to you: a weekly email about what was done and what to work on next, and a live progress report with no login.

    Built with science

The way the site teaches comes from computing education research: predicting before running code, tracing programs, putting code in order before writing it, spacing out practice, and learning most from the mistakes you were sure about. See the research behind it.

    Free revision guides

Short guides to the questions candidates find hardest in the Higher exam, taken from the examiners' reports: data flow, standard algorithms on records, GROUP BY, compound keys, CSS layout and more, each with exam-style questions to try. Read the free guides.

    Questions

Does it cover the whole course?

Yes: all four areas (software design and development, computer systems, database design and development, web design and development), mapped topic by topic to the official course specification.

Does it help with the assignment?

It teaches the skills the assignment needs: programming, databases and web pages. It never gives help with a live assignment task, which would be against the rules.

Is it the same as the National 5 site?

No. It is a separate site, written for Higher: new notes, questions, lessons and a mock exam for the Higher course, with older examples and contexts.

    Can I get a refund?

Yes. If it is not right for your child, email us within 14 days of paying and we will refund you in full.

    What do I need?

A web browser on a computer, tablet or phone. Everything runs in the browser. A computer or tablet is best for the coding lessons.

    Are you the exam board?

No. This site is independent and not connected to the SQA or Qualifications Scotland. It links to their official past papers rather than copying them.
